The Challenge
During my last semester at McGill, I had the chance to take a class which emulates a capstone project class. The class allows you to come up with a project idea and pitch it to any professor in the Software Enginnering department. If they like your idea, they can supervise your project. I went for the second route as I was more interested in getting to work on my own project.
The goal of this project was for me to apply all of the knowledge, critical thinking and experience design fundamentals I had learned during my time at McGill in the past 3 years.
I wanted to create an app that would allow me to better track my finances while having an intuitive and easy to use interface that was also attractive.
Learning Experience
The past 3 years of self-teaching myself design and programming really helped me complete this project as I had to teach myself iOS development. I had already worked on Events2Go the semester before, but that app was a lot simpler than this one, so there were a lot of gaps in my knowledge that I had to fill.
The biggest challenge came from iCloud sharing and linking, and unfortunately by the end of the class, I still wasn't able to perfect my sharing implementation. However, I did manage to create an app with a great interface and smooth user experience, and I leveled up my Swift coding, so overall I am very satisfied with my project. In my free time, I plan to finish this project someday.
