The Challenge
During my last semester at McGill, I had the chance to dive into the intriguing world of Software Privacy. Our final project was to create a software, guided by the principles of privacy-by-design, and meticulously document the entire journey.
For our project, my team and I opted to develop a period tracking web app. It might sound like a curious choice, but think about it – these apps demand quite a bit of sensitive info! Our mission was clear: we aimed to strip away any personal data (PII) vulnerabilities and create a secure and private experience.
My own goal on top of this was to craft a visually appealing and user-friendly web app that offered all the essential tools for privacy-centric period tracking.
Learning Experience
In addition to discovering a variety of privacy-focused tips and tools during the course and this project, I embarked on my first-ever journey to create a web-app from scratch, while also delving into the realm of CSS libraries.
I also took my first steps in using JavaScript to build a calendar and make page modifications, an experience I hadn't previously explored.
All in all, this project and class shaped my perspective towards prioritizing privacy in app and service development, and they broadened my understanding of web-related technologies.
