The Challenge
This project was one of my first attempts in Blender where I decided to break away from following tutorials step by step. Instead, I was just curious to see what I could come up with using everything I'd learned over the past few months. I had quite a few roadblocks along the way due to my lack of experience.
Nailing the overall shape took a few tries because I only had some low-quality and random in-game screenshots as references, but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Another major challenge I faced was lighting. It was a bit tricky because I hadn't yet explored area lights and I hadn’t learned the various lighting techniques commonly used in 3D modeling and rendering at the time, so it was a lot of trial and error.
Learning Experience
This project was a fantastic learning experience for me in Blender. While I really struggled to create everything on my own without following a tutorial, that helped me get more familiar with the Blender interface and tools, as well as learning how to problem solve in Blender.
I also gained a lot of insights into material creation and refinement and learned some important lessons about what not to do when lighting a scene (even though that one was a bit frustrating).
All in all, I was quite pleased with the results of this project, especially considering my skill level at the time.
